We all have so many favourite records that trying to select just ten isn’t easy. But I’ve eventually managed to pick out ten singles that always hit the spot for me. Of course this list is subjective, and so I would love to hear your views. I haven’t included any Motown tracks – I could easily have made a top-ten out of those alone – maybe that’s for next time. Meanwhile, I hope that you enjoy the tracks that I have selected – just click on the title of the track to hear it. – and click on the artists’ name to see some cool pictures. I no particular order…

DENTON SOUL CLUB
Denton Labour Club, Ashton Road, M34 3JF
Denton Soul Club gigs are always on the 1st Friday of every month.

It’s been over 36 years since I attended my first soul gig and learned to love the music; and during that period I have listened to, danced to, played and collected thousands of records. What keeps me as keen as ever is that I know that there are thousands more records out there for me to discover and enjoy.

I still adore many of the sounds I discovered over three decades ago: but if they were the only records out there then I would have quickly grown bored of the Scene, and those sounds would amount to nothing more than a collection of treasured memories.

But whenever I am out and about at gigs I always hear something that is new to my ears, or a track that I’d long since forgotten. That is what fuels my passion.

Few are the DJ’s that can fill a spot with ‘new’ material, acetates of previously unreleased tracks, and records that cost well in excess of a thousand pounds. However, there are some knowledgeable DJ’s and collectors out there who make the effort to trawl their sources and unearth records that are ‘new’ to our ears: records that keep the Scene as fresh and as vibrant as ever.

On this web-site we aim to continue that tradition. We invite DJ’s, collectors and soul fans everywhere to contribute by providing us with details of those obscure sounds that are currently delighting the ears of discerning Soulies everywhere around the globe.

Yes, we are interested in the past, but we are also interested in the present, and we aim to bring to your attention many of those soul sounds that deserve to be heard – collected – cherished.

We hope that you will enjoy browsing through these pages, and that you will them both informative and entertaining. Your help is always appreciated, and if you have any material that you think will add to our efforts, you can e.mail us at anytime at n.soulchris@hotmail.com
